The book I am reading is Robinson Crusoe. The reason I chose this novel is that it is a survival book and I like books on the same topic. Nothing has happened before the novel began because the novel starts off by saying that Robinson was born. The person that is telling the story is Robinson. The story takes place in York. Then after a little bit Robinson is on a ship heading for London. The setting is important because the people in the story are talking different than we do so it is good to know where they are coming from. The first problem faced by the main character is that he is on a ship heading for
London and they get stuck in a bad storm. While they are in this storm, all of the other people on the boat are scared and they are experienced sailors. When the storm gets even worse all of the sailors have to pump the water out of the hold. This happened in the middle of the night. The author gets you to read on by making it very interesting and by using interesting words. He gets you to pause by using words that we don’t normally see and by making us focus on the text around those words to figure out what the words mean. You don’t really need to know that much information before you read this novel because it starts out when Robinson is born. But it is good to know that it has to do with old times, and that it deals with sailing.
